The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the IT Infrastructure Manager, the Unix/Linux Administrator ensures the optimal performance, stability, and security of Gildan's core operating system platforms and file-transfer networks. This position is vital to maintaining business continuity across global operations, supporting everything from virtualization layers to specialized enterprise applications.
As part of a business that operates around the clock, this position requires commitment to a rotational on-call schedule including scheduled evenings and weekends to ensure seamless operational coverage, support international sites, and execute critical updates outside of standard business hours.
The Role
- Systems Administration: Provision, configure, and maintain RedHat Linux enterprise environments, Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM), VMware, and core system hardware.
- Managed File Transfer (MFT): Support and optimize critical enterprise data exchange via SFTP frameworks and HelpSystems GoAnywhere, ensuring script standards and configuration protocols are met.
- Application Support: Assist in the administration, patching, and technical support of specialized enterprise platforms.
- Security & SOX Compliance: Enforce network and physical security policies, administer user access controls, and meticulously update SOX compliance documentation.
- Change & Patch Management: Test and deploy system upgrades, software patches, and environmental changes rigorously to guarantee zero disruption to integrated client systems.
- Business Continuity: Maintain, evaluate, and test the system Disaster Recovery (DR) Plan.
- Documentation & Audit: Maintain up-to-date system documentation, step-by-step operational procedures (with visual captures), and software license inventories.
- Service Delivery: Provide high-quality technical support to internal clients, promptly resolving issues and enhancement requests.
- Innovation & Research: Conduct research and solution comparisons to provide data-driven recommendations for new technology acquisitions and system enhancements.
- Operational Communication: Assist in the effective, timely communication of upcoming planned and unplanned systems changes to users
The Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
- Experience: 10+ years of proven experience as a Linux/Unix Systems Administrator in an enterprise setting.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical changes to both technical teams and business stakeholders
- Technical Mastery: In-depth knowledge of RedHat Linux, robust Shell scripting (Bash), and enterprise SFTP infrastructure.
- Virtualization: Strong administrative knowledge of OVM (Oracle Virtual Machine) and VMware frameworks.
- Valued Assets: Experience with HelpSystems GoAnywhere, IBM VIO, or AIX environments is highly advantageous.
- Compliance & Security: Prior experience working within a regulated environment (such as SOX compliance) and managing strict security protocols.
- Collaboration: Proven ability to work cross-functionally with Infrastructure, Business Intelligence (BI), and Development teams across international sites.
- Operational Flexibility: Flexibility and willingness to participate in a rotational, on-call framework to support a 24/7 global manufacturing operation
