The opportunity

Corporate generalist that will work under direction and supervision of Legal Director supporting two of Gildan’s major business units, Global Sales, Marketing and Distribution and U.S. Yarn Manufacturing providing legal advice and support to these business units.

 

The role

  • Providing legal advice to support the Global Sales, Marketing and Distribution and U.S. Yarn Manufacturing divisions of Gildan, which will include informing management of the legal considerations that impact the business and providing legal opinions, recommendations and strategies to management with respect to various business initiatives.
  • Preparing, reviewing and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts to support all aspects of the business units, including agreements with customers, suppliers and service providers in the areas of sales, warehousing, screen-printing, sourcing, information technology, credit management, employment and other areas.
  • Providing legal services to Human Resources, including advice and counsel, contract review, and handling disputed matters.
  • Performing legal services related to the management of the company's real estate portfolio, comprised of both owned and leased properties, by negotiating leases and subleases and handling real estate transactions.
  • Providing support for disputed matters and claims involving various aspects of the business units.
  • Providing product development and marketing support as needed by the business units.
  • Working with and guiding specialized external legal counsel to ensure that the Company's strategies and interests are being supported and advanced appropriately.
  • Being a team player and a corporate generalist who is willing to take on a variety tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to high ethical standards.

The requirement

  • Juris Doctorate or LLM and University Degree
  • 8-12 Years Relevant Experience
  • License to practice in a jurisdiction in the United States required.
  • 8-12 years of relevant corporate, employment, and/or commercial transaction law experience with a renowned law firm and with a large consumer business.
  • Professional, highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Possess the ability to work independently, to thrive under pressure and to meet deadlines in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Business-oriented experience required. Candidate must show a willingness and desire to learn about the business.
