Governance

Gildan works to ensure that our advocacy priorities are regularly reviewed and presented to the executive management team, with updates provided to the Corporate Governance and Social Responsibility Committee of our Board of Directors, as necessary.

Accountability for the Company’s advocacy efforts rests with the Vice-President of Commodities, Customs, and Trade Compliance. This responsibility is supported through collaboration with external firms with expertise in governmental affairs and advocacy.

Approach

In regions where we operate, Gildan seeks opportunities, when relevant and appropriate, to engage with government representatives on matters connected to our business and long-term sustainability. These discussions generally focus on topics such as economic development, responsible business practices, and regulatory developments affecting our industry. Engagement may take place directly or through participation in industry associations that address broader sector-wide issues.

Public disclosure

In the United States, Gildan files Lobbying Disclosure Act reports with Congress. These reports identify specific bills and policy issues on which we lobby and provide total quarterly lobbying expenditures. They are available at:

In Canada, Gildan’s registered consultants and in-house lobbyists must periodically file communication reports with respect to interactions with designated public office holders at the federal level. These reports are publicly available here.

Trade associations

Gildan may engage on federal, provincial, state, and local policy matters through trade associations. Our involvement supports the advancement of responsible public policy within the apparel sector. Although we may not agree with every position taken by these organizations, we actively communicate our views on issues affecting our business.

Political contributions

To avoid any real or perceived conflict of interest with political officials, Gildan does not make corporate political contributions to elected officials, political candidates, political parties, or partisan political committees in any jurisdiction. This prohibition applies globally and covers both direct contributions (such as monetary donations, sponsorships, or in-kind support) and indirect contributions made through intermediaries.

While Gildan may engage in public policy dialogue and advocacy, including through registered lobbying activities and participation in industry trade associations, such engagement is strictly issue-based and never tied to political fundraising or electoral support.

Any personal political activity undertaken by Gildan employees is done solely in their individual capacity and, per Gildan’s Code of Ethics, must not use company resources, funds, or time, nor imply company endorsement. Employees involved in public policy activities are required to adhere to internal conflict-of-interest rules and all applicable lobbying, ethics, and campaign finance laws.
