The opportunity
Located in Gildan’s global Sales, Marketing and Distribution (SMD) office in Barbados, the Director, Tax Compliance & Reporting SMD will play a pivotal role that involves managing the tax compliance for Gildan’s SMD entities, ensuring all tax filings are completed accurately and on time across various tax jurisdictions. The Director, with the support of analytical support staff, will be responsible for overseeing and managing tax compliance and tax accounting matters for the SMD companies. Key responsibilities include preparing individual annual income tax provisions, managing all tax compliance matters, and handling government tax audits. This role is crucial in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of our tax processes.
The role
Reporting to the Vice President, Global Tax, who has overall responsibility of the Company’s tax department, the individual will have the following responsible for Gildan’s SMD companies
- Oversee and manage tax compliance for all SMD entities, collaborating closely with external advisors to ensure the timely and accurate submission of corporate income tax returns and all other applicable filings
- Oversee the preparation and review of annual tax provisions in close collaboration with internal finance teams.
- Support the Corporate Tax team in the preparation of Gildan’s consolidated tax provision, the tax note to the financial statements, SOX 404 compliance for income taxes, and other tax accounting matters.
- Provide ad hoc support to the Corporate Tax team on global and regional tax planning, structuring initiatives, and strategic decision-making, as needed.
- Assist the local finance team in preparing statutory financial statements, ensuring accurate reporting of all tax-related items.
- Support the Corporate Tax team with the recording and documentation of transfer pricing adjustments.
- Provide tax support to the SMD organization, including contract reviews and guidance on sales tax, VAT, and other tax matters.
- Manage and maintain effective relationships with local tax authorities.
- Support the Senior U.S. Corporate Tax Manager in preparing and filing U.S. tax compliance for SMD entities, including the review and assessment of state tax nexus.
The requirement
- Bachelor Degree in finance or related discipline
- Professional accounting designation is required
- Completion of CICA in-depth tax courses or equivalent
- Minimum of 12 years tax experience, including relevant experience in tax compliance and planning, tax compensation and tax accounting
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a management position
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
